My thought

In my opinion this book was one of the best that I have ever read! If you like mystery books then you really need to read this one. I loved all of the little twist that she added just as things were calming down. I can not wait to read the next two books. J.D. is just a simple girl trying to uncover her past and figure out what really happened. She doesn't mean to hurt anyone, but she is powerful when it comes to fighting. When the woman said that she wasn't her mother, it blew me away! I couldn't believe it. This book really grabs you and pulls you in to finish it the very day that you pick it up. This books is defiantly a thriller. Wow, every time you make a prediction to the end, it changes because something else happens. If I was this girl I would probably be driving myself completely crazy, I'm not sure if i could handle what she is going through. J.D. I believe is a special thing, she is different than us. She is stronger. I have one word to summarize this book, Unbelievable! ((:

-To everyone out there that loves a good thrilling mystery, you have to go get this book! You'll love it!

-Maggie.

Ending the Book

The woman was dead. They put a ring of boxes around the perimeter of her and lit them on fire. Once it was burning good, they ran and ran with ease. J.D. knew she was in danger. Deep danger. And in order to stop it she had to stop the people causing it, Dr. Styron. J.D. thought about how long it would take the fumes to burn the body of the woman she thought was her mother. She felt bad for this but knew it was for the best. So her and Daniel ran away.

Running Away

She woke up in a small area. On a cold hard ground that looked like a car but wider. It was a van with no windows. She heard people talking outside but couldn't make out what they were saying. She heard the door open then slam shut and heard the voice of her mother "I know your awake, no need to pretend." She told her how she wasn't her mother, it was all a lie. Alexa Collins didn't really exist it was just a story. She tried to explain how she was protecting them. J.D. was stunned. Her whole life was a lie? Everything? She wasn't getting any better and the people she thought was there for her was really just using her. She couldn't believe it. The woman got out of the van and opened a door where J.D. had been laying, she said she was sorry for doing this again but it was better that way then she heard Daniel call for her. "J.D. run!" he called as he shoved the lady down on the ground. She got up and ran her hardest with Daniel. Through the train station and into a little house that was across a field. They busted through the window and hid behind some boxes. They had lost the woman in the train station for a few more minutes. They heard the woman bust threw the another window and called for them to come out now and no body would get hurt. They still hid even as she was getting so much closer. Once she was in front of the wall of boxes and she was talking about how she wouldn't hurt Daniel if he just left everything alone, J.D. sprung. Pushing the woman as hard as she could as fast as she could over the banister of the top floor and the woman fell to the bottom with a thud.

Plan

The next day she awoke to her mother's smell of chocolate chip pancakes. Another memory that she then remembered of every Sunday having them. She went down stairs and found her mother standing in the kitchen over the stove. Her mother started out with some small talk then asked how her night was. "Fine, why?" asked J.D. Her mother told her that she was tossing and turning all night long and screaming. Her mother came and checked on her every hour to make sure that she was okay, though she knew she was being over protective she felt like it was her job. J.D. was very confused. Had she dreamed the whole thing that she thought was the truth last night? Daniel, the attacker, the plan. Was it all just another dream? She couldn't be sure of either.

Later that day she went to see Dr. Styron yet again. It started the same as any other day with the million same ole' questions and then the intercom came on, "Dr. Styron? There is an emergency in the lobby, your needed in there now." Dr. Styron answered "I told you to never bother me while I'm with a patient! I'll be right there." He told J.D. that he was sorry and that he would be right back and just hang out there for awhile.

When he opened the door he heard the screaming of a voice he was very familiar with. Daniel's. She knew that last night did happen now. So thought threw the plan once then went to take care of her job. She quietly went out of the office and down the hall to the office where Dr. Styron had gotten the laptop before. She hurried and logged on and went to the little camera on the screen. She searched through the many video's and found one of her self and clicked play. She saw the questions and she laid back on the bed as usual and then she saw Dr. Styron get up and walk over to the desk and pull out a needle. A green needle that looked exactly like the one she had seen in her dreams. He stuck it in her and she cried, screamed, and tried to fight him off. He then waited a few minutes that said many statements that was what she had been remembering. She repeated them like a little robot which made her sick. She heard the door fly open and saw someone standing there and with a long barrel pointed to her and heard the whisper " I'm sorry for this," then everything went black.

Daniel

J.D. had to talk to Daniel. So one night when she woke up from a good dream for once, she snuck out of her room and into her mother's office. Then she wanted to cry. A brochure was sitting next to the keyboard. Recover Your Serenity At The GREENBOROUGH INSTITUTE. A beautiful white mansion surrounded by perfect green grass all around it. She was furious now. She sat the brochure down where she found it and logged onto the computer. She quietly hit the keys to type:

Daniel- can you get out tomorrow night? Midnight @ the corner of Pine and 17Th st.
I need you.
J.D.

The next night once her mom was asleep she slipped out of the house. She had no phone, no map and no way of finding her way back and no one to rescue her. She probably should have been scared but she wasn't, she was free. Free to do whatever she wanted without anyone to stop her. She got a little lost on the mile walk to find the train station she passes everyday when she goes to see Dr. Styron. But then she saw a train coming to a stop then saw the station so she ran through the crowd of people. She jumped on the train just as the train started to go and the door slammed shut. She was on her way, on her way to see Daniel. She sat in a seat and looked out the window but couldn't see anything except for a strange man starting at her from across the aisle. She ignored it. Before she knew it, she had reached her stop. She got up and left the train.

The alley was small, and smelled like trash. There was a flickering light on the corner and she saw an outline of a person and when they stepped out she almost screamed. She did scream. Then ran to Daniel and threw her arms around him. When he finally told her that he couldn't breathe she let him go. She started talking to him. They talked for a very long time about what was really wrong with her so she just let it all go. She told him everything from the minute she left the center to the minute she walked off the train. And he just listened. As soon as she was done he spoke. They made a plan, a plan to find out what this sneaky Doctor was finding and Daniel was helping.

Just as they were saying there goodbye's and about to leave they heard something. Someone. All of a sudden. A man came running out and push Daniel up against the wall. J.D. tries to run away but he grabs her. He drags her into the back of the valley she is fighting trying to get away the best she can but can't manage. The guy has a mask on so she can't tell who he really is. He places a cloth that is soaked with some type of fumes of her face and tries to make her inhale it. She holds her breath the best she can. She then fights harder. Finally, getting him off he runs away as Daniel gets up to help J.D. Both of them in shock ask if the other is okay. J.D. was still a little dizzy from the strong fumes. They tried to figure out how long he had been there and where he came from and most of all who was he? They talked a moment more about their plan then J.D. had to leave before she missed her train.

Phone Call

As J.D. returned from outside she went to ask her mother what she wondered. The truth. She smelled the sweet smell of cookies, gingerbread cookies. That's when it came to her. Her first memory. Her mother was swinging her around in her arms on Christmas with a huge gold present under the tree with a green ribbon. There was gingerbread cookies on the oven cooling and just as any little kid would, Alexa was asking her mom when she could eat one. She realized what had just happened holding her breath. It was a memory. She quickly looked around for her mother but found her no where then noticed that her mother's office door was shut. Her mother had told her to never interrupt her while the door was shut unless it was a emergency. This was an emergency! She had finally had her first memory so she quietly opened the door.

Her mother was standing in the back, phone pressed against her ear. "I agree" her mother said unusually different. "We can't afford that risk. And the more time passes..." She paused. "You're right. We need to get her to the Institute, and soon." J.D. gasped, "You're sending me away?"

Her mother was angry. She snapped " What are you doing in here?" J.D. was nearly crying at this time. "You want to send me away to some horrible place where I don't bother you anymore? Sorry, I didn't know i was such a trouble!" Her mother tried comforting her and saying that that wasn't meant for her ears and Dr. Styron just thinks that this would help her get more progress faster. J.D. didn't really care at this point. She was finally making progress and they had already given up on her.

She told her mother about her memory, her mother didn't believe her at first. She told her that she didn't have to make up things just to try to stay. But J.D. wasn't making this up! She came in and smelled something sweet, her mother told her that she use to love gingerbread cookies when she was little. Her mother finally believed her. "Oh you did remember!" She was so happy that she had. Her mother finally compromised that she would give her a few more weeks to see if she gets any more memories. Although, Dr. Styron wouldn't like it, her mother wasn't going to give up just yet.

Memories

J.D. was getting aggravated. She wanted to talk to Daniel, he was the only person that really understood her. She HAD to talk to him, but Dr. Styron or her mom wouldn't allow her. They just said that she needed to let go of her things keeping her from being two different people. Talking about Alexa and J.D. she acted as if Alexa was a completely new person, but she wasn't they were one. And she had to get that through her head no matter how hard she didn't want to. She had to try though she wanted to get better.

She was mad at her mother she needed to talk to Daniel bad. So she went to go see him. Or she tried to. She ran down the sidewalk full as fast as she could. Down the street when she saw the little kid on his tricycle keeping at her pace. She stopped leaned over with her hands on her knees, panting. "Hey you" he shouted. "Who are you?" he asked like he was trying to be tough, like he was protecting his ground. "where are your parents" asked J.D. As there conversation continued he asked what house she lived in and she point to hers and he argued with her that no one has
lived in that house since his best friend Kyle moved out of it a couple years ago.

This confused J.D. Her mother said that they had lived there her whole life, so why had this kid said that? Would he really lie to her about it like that? She didn't know but she was curious. This was yet another question she had no answer to.

Dr. Stryon

Me and my mother walked into his office and I froze in my steps. Him, Dr. Stryon was him. Scary him. From all my nightmares. He was the one that woke me up night after night with that face, that voice. I couldn't stop staring. Has she seen him in my life before? She couldn't stop thinking about it. He was calling her name but she wouldn't reply, she couldn't. Finally, she snapped back into reality. And started her first seccsion with a bunch of stupid questions, what could she remember, what has happened since she woke up, who she is, has she been hallucinating, hearing or seeing anything weird ect. She didn't tell him the truth. On anything. She just kept it all to herself...

The seccsions started off the same every day. The same questions the same laying on the couch and dozzing off and he did whatever it was that he would do then he told me to wake up and I would sit up serveral hours later than when she laid down. She couldn't remember what had happened or what was said but she hoped that none of the things she wanted to keep in the dark came out. She wasn't sure about him yet. He would always tell her the truth if she wanted to know it but he would never tell her what was said, he always just told her that telling her the memories before she is ready would just ruin all the progress they have already made. She didn't argue.

Home

We finally arrived after a hour drive. It was a small two story house with a few small windows in the top floor. It was a white house in what seems to be a safe family subdivision. There was a narrow lawn long winding sidewalk leading up to the porch, and an one car garage was attached to the side. Nothing looked familiar. She thought that she would have memories of this neighborhood, memories of her riding a bake through the streets, memories of her trick-or-treating door to door on Halloween, or building a snowman in the front lawn while it snowed. But there was nothing. Once she went inside she looked around she still couldn't remember anything. She talked to her mom for a while and then suddenly felt over whelmed so she decided she would go to her room. It was then that she realized that this was her house but she didn't even know where her own room was. She felt the need to cry but she held it in until she could ask her mother which way to go then went to her room to see if it could make her remember anything. Her room was pink, very pink. She felt weird looking through all the drawers and threw the closet, lie someone would come in at anytime and bust her. But then she realized this was all hers and nothing would be said. It was that night at dinner her mom asked yet another question. Her mother started off if she wanted to get better and how she was feeling and little simple questions. Then she said, "Alexa honey i wanted to take you to see someone tomorrow. A family friend, Dr. Styron." Alexa thought about it but told her mom what Dr. Fisher from the hospital had told her, that she wouldn't need another checkup for a couple more weeks and that she would get better all by herself. But after thinking about it a little more she figured there wouldn't be any trouble in getting better faster and said that she would go tomorrow to see him.

Found

The next morning after Daniel and J.D. spent all night talking about how they were going to look for answers, J.D. got called to the directors office. She was escorted by one of the guards that was watching everyone while they ate. When she got in the office she found the same person siting behind the same desk as when she went there her first day to get all the rules and everything laid down. But there was another lady standing there, when J.D. walked in the woman screamed "ALEXA! Thank god!" The woman took her into her arms. "Honey, don't you remember me? I thought ..." But truth be told, J.D. didn't remember this person at all. But then again what did she remember? J.D's mom found her? Why now? Why right when her Daniel were about to find out what really happened?

Her name: Alexa Collins.

Her age: 13.

And at this point its all she knew.

The Center

When J.D. arrived at the center, she hated it. She didn't know anyone and everyone was always staring at her and talking about her. A girl came up to her with a group of girls who thought they owned the place and tried to push her around. Mel was her name and from the moment J.D. didn't like her. Seemed like other people didn't either. The food there was gross. She barely ate. Everything looked like mush. She met a nice guy there though, Daniel was his name. He got mad at her though, when Daniel got in a fight, the other people were beating him up. So she jumped in and started fighting them. Well, he didn't like that very much because it made him look like a little sissy having a girl fight his fights for him. But other than that. They were good friends. After quite some time, J.D. was having bad nightmares and hearing funny things and she never told anyone. The dreams got worse and worse so one night when she couldn't handle it anymore she told Daniel. They snuck out of the cabin area and went to the old temple and talked for a long time. That's when Daniel noticed that J.D. had a tattoo on the back of her neck. It was very small and it was a weird looking symbol. She had been drawling that symbol days before on a peice of paper and she had no idea what it really meant. But she wanted to. They talked and talked about what has been going on and what everything could mean and they settled on one thing. Tomorrow morning they were going to start digging for answers, newpapers, news reports, internet, everything that they could get their hands on to look for answers to J.D.'s past.

Interesting Twist

As I was reading this book in class today, it took an interesting twist. The girl who has now been named J.D. Short for the mysterious "Jane Doe," has been told by the doctor that there is no more they can do and she is being sent to a center that will try to help her more. She has no clue what is going on anymore than when she woke up just 72 hrs ago. She is being thrown out into the world not knowing who she is or where she is from. The only things she has is the clothes that they found her in that are now ruined from the explosion. Yes the explosion. That is what happened when they found her. She had been in a explosion that was nearly 4 city blocks but only hit one human soul, her. They didn't know why she was there or what she was doing, but whatever it was it nearly killed her. And really it did, she wasn't sure what was really going on. But she was starting to get scared. More than scared, terrified of what would happen...

Starting This Book

When I first started this book, it made me think "What would I be thinking if this girl was me?" I would be more nervous than she was most likely. She was calm, yet confused. Not knowing what was going on or what had happened. The kind man asked her the most simple question someone could ask and she wasn't sure how to answer it. "What was her name?" She couldn't answer the question that her life revolved around. Who was she? She had no idea. She couldn't remember anything. And who was that strange man that was looking over her when she first woke up then ran away? Nothing was making since.
